The Good News!

Nope, it’s not the Gospel of Christ I am talking about this time, but another kind of good news. My wife and I are having a baby! He or she will see the light of day in September, God willing! We are hoping for a boy but will be infinitely happy with a girl, too. We appreciate your prayers for Myka and all the changes that are going to happen and are in fact happening right now, and all the adjustments that will have to be made.

A very happy future-dad Christoph

Hachuu

Bless you! :) We have a new addition to our ever-growing family. His (or her, haven’t sexed him yet… or her) name is Hachuu, which is short for Hachuurui (爬虫類) which means -are you ready?- reptile. Yeah, I am not very creative in naming things. Here are some pictures.

Hachuu

He’s a Tokay gecko, is pretty scared still, and barks when you pick him up. Yeah, he makes noises. He can also bite pretty hard when you pick him up and draw blood, so I only pick him up with gloves :)
I will try and tame him over time, so we will see. Right now I just want him to get used to his environment. He’s arboreal, which means he climbs on trees, so I stuck some branches in there and he seems to like hanging off and on them.

His diet consists of crickets, just like Yamori’s, and he already ate some which is a good sign of him getting used to his surroundings. His natural habitat is tropic forest, so I need to keep the humidity up in his terrarium. That was somewhat difficult so far, but today I build a dripper out of a juice mug and a IV line my wife graciously provided for me, so we’ll see how that goes. Enjoy the pics!
