I got Final Fantasy XII for my birthday last week and have really been enjoying playing it. It’s the best one in the series yet, sans XI since I never played that. I was playing XII yesterday, having a good time and minding my own business, and Myka was watching Lost on our laptop, when suddenly the sirens went off.
Tornado sirens, that is. In the almost 3 years we’ve lived here, never have I actually heard the sirens go off in a real Tornado situation. We stared at each other for a few seconds and turned the TV on to look for the weather.
The first thing we hear is something about a tornado or rotation near Highway 9, which, of course, is about half a block away from our house. Great. We put on our shoes, grab a jacket and the two dogs (we’re dogsitting for a friend) and try to decide where to go. Garage? Bedroom closet? Church? The clinic?
Looking outside we see that the rain stopped. That’s a bad thing; a really bad thing. If it suddenly stopped that means it’s going somewhere else instead of pouring down, likely caused by the rotation of a tornado. So while we are still deciding where to go, watching our neighbours get in their cars to go to a safer place, the sirens stop. The news radar images show cloud rotation East and Northeast of Norman, so it seems the storm passed us by, but can we be sure?
Since it was bible study night, Sean called to check whether we were still going to have it and I decided not to, just to be safe. 10 minutes later another friend does show up for bible study since they kicked him out of the dorms due to severe weather. I call Sean back to see if he still wants to come by and he does, so 20 minutes later we’re sitting in our living room to have bible study.
Meanwhile the storm really, positively passed us by with no signs of a real tornado in our area. Phew. It ended up being a really good evening for bible study with only two people plus my wife and I; lots of good discussion and questions in a small group like that.
For now I have enough of tornados. Unfortunately, tornado season hasn’t even started yet. There usually aren’t any in March anyway, so I have another 2 months of tornados to look forward to. Oh joy
